A CONTESTANT on US game show Jeopardy! has quickly become television's newest villain after revealing the unusual tactics behind his winning streak.

Arthur Chu has been dubbed a "mad genius" by viewers after winning the long-running game three times since his first appearance on the show last week.

The 30-year-old insurance compliance analyst from Ohio admits he studied the ins and outs of the game and developed a strategy to break from the traditional way contestants play Jeopardy!
"I decided pretty early on, you know, I'm not going to be able to learn all the things I don't know in terms of actual knowledge," he told MailOnline.

"You only get a month between when they call you and when you have to go out for the show. So I said, 'What's the strategy that'll serve me best on the show?' It seems that people don't actually think about the strategy of the game itself as much as they do about the knowledge."

Chu revealed he goes in search of the hidden Daily Doubles - which are located in the three highest-paying levels of a category and reward contestants extra points - before moving to another category, which leaves his competitors with fewer options and limits their chances of catching him.

Typically, contestants choose a single category and progressively move from the lowest amount up to the highest, rather than answering the high stakes questions first.

Since his first appearance last week, shocked viewers have lashed out at Chu, claiming his tactics are unsportsmanlike and dubbing him the "Jeopardy villain", while others are in awe of his winning strategy.
But love him or loathe him, Chu is embracing his TV villain moniker - his Twitter profile now boasts "mad genius" as well as "comedian, actor, and freelance voiceover artist".

Chu will next appear on Jeopardy! on Monday, February 24.
